Gatehouse Project
Best practice guidelines for mental health promotion programs: Children & Youth
An Australian secondary school project, Gatehouse Project was developed in 1996 to promote student engagement and school connectedness
as the way to improve emotional well-being and learning outcomes. Through the establishment and support of a school-based
adolescent health team, relevant protective and risk factors are identified in each school. The three priority areas for action
include:
- building a sense of security and trust
- enhancing skills and opportunities for good communication
- building a sense of positive regard through valued participation in aspects of school life.
