Studies the biology of many receptors that were the first cloned by this section and through which opioids, dopamine, serotonin and other neurotransmitters exert their actions. These receptors are part of the family of G protein coupled receptors and are predicted to be involved in drug addiction, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia and other neuropsychiatric disorders. The section has investigated the mechanism of receptor activation and desensitization in order to gain insight into the molecular mechanisms of neurotransmitter and drug action.
