Women's Secure Unit (LWSU) Unit 3-1

The Law and Mental Health Women's Secure Unit (LWSU) is a six-bed unit located at the Queen Street site. The unit serves exclusively female individuals who have been found Not Criminally Responsible for a criminal offence due to a mental illness and have been ordered to the unit by the Ontario Review Board.

The unit provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation from a secure setting with the goal of rehabilitation and, when appropriate, reintegration into the community with due regard for public safety.

Care and service delivery functions are carried out within a multidisciplinary team model and provides a variety of programs to met treatment and rehabilitation needs. Where appropriate,  families and/or significant others should be involved in the formulation of the rehabilitation plan and treatment goals.
