GPP/CATS Program - Inpatient Services - General Psychiatry Unit (GPU)

The General Psychiatry Unit (GPU) is a 23-bed unit that provides short-term inpatient care for a diverse population of individuals with a severe mental illness and/or addictions issues, who are in the acute phase of their illness. Treatment is individualized and is delivered by an interdisciplinary team consisting of an attending psychiatrist, psychiatric resident, occupational therapist, social worker and nurses. Patients requiring longer inpatient stays or ongoing care are usually transferred to one of CAMH's Continuing Care or other specialty programs.

Referral Required: Yes, usually direct referral from the CAMH Emergency Service or other CAMH in-patient specialty program and CAMH Bed coordinator.
