Drug and Alcohol Treatment Information System (DATIS)

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Information System (DATIS), as a program of CAMH, contributes to the understanding and enhancement of Ontario's problem gambling and substance abuse treatment system by collecting and reporting treatment-related data. Approximately 150 agencies are required, by their service contracts with the Ministry, to contribute data to the centralized database maintained by DATIS.

Data elements collected include:

  • Basic demographics (age, gender, employment, education, etc.)
  • Substances used and frequency of use
  • Gambling activities.
  • Health related issues (including concurrent disorders)
  • Types of services provided (e.g. Residential Treatment, Community Treatment, Withdrawal Management Services, etc.)
  • Length of stay /duration and frequency of services provided
  • Discharge circumstances (e.g. completed service, dropped out, etc.)

The data submitted are used to produce standard reports for the MoHLTC, participating agencies and other stakeholders as well as to respond to a variety of data requests. Data are also used for research and planning purposes. DATIS has developed specialized software which also functions as the client information system for many of the participating agencies.
