Concurrent Disorders Service
The Concurrent Disorders Capacity Building (CDCB) Team is a small group of clinicians and researchers focused on enhancing
concurrent disorders capacity at a variety of levels: individual practitioner level, Clinical Program level, and broader systems
levels, through a variety of internal and external activities that fall into 5 key domains:
- Clinical - such as the provision of clinical consultation through the Consultation-Liaison Service’; or the provision of clinical
supervision
- Knowledge Exchange - such as the provision of internal and external clinical workshops on various concurrent disorders topics;
and the internal ‘Concurrent Disorders Capable Initiative’ systematically supporting all clinicians in the Addictions Program
to attain Level I ‘CD Capable’ clinical capacity; and Level II ‘CD Specialized’ clinical capacity for some clinicians;
- Product Development - such as the development of the ‘Concurrent Disorders Family Guides’, the ‘Treating Concurrent Disorders’
CAMH text, and;more recently, working on the 4th edition of the ‘Alcohol and Drug Problems’ CAMH text;
- Systems Building & Community Engagement – such as our partnership with ‘Concurrent Disorders Support Services (CDSS)’ -a
network of 25 community agencies serving clients with concurrent disorders; the ‘Concurrent Disorders Family Community of
Practice’ established with 22 agencies around the province supporting the needs of family members of individuals with concurrent
disorders; and linkages being formed with primary care providers to engage them in capacity-building activities regarding
addictions and concurrent disorders issues as part of the Program’s ‘Primary Care Initiative’;
- and Research.
The Addictions Program has engaged in systematic training and education across all it services resulting in all services being
