Eating Disorder and Addiction Clinic
The Eating Disorder and Addiction Clinic (EDAC) offers several specialized outpatient treatments for both men and women.
One stream assists clients who have substance abuse problems accompanied by an eating disorder. We also have groups for individuals
who believe they are addicted to food, who may or may not struggle with substance use problems. And we also serve clients
with concurrent substance use and social phobia and/or generalized anxiety disorder.
The treatment approaches involve a variety of modalities, which in addition to weekly group sessions may include one or more
of the following:
- weekly one-hour individual psychotherapy sessions
- recommendations to meet with a dietitian
- telephone consultation.
The program provides integrated concurrent treatment for both eating disorders and substance use disorders. Clients commit
to attend treatment for a minimum of 10 weeks to one year. Family issues (support, education, intervention) are addressed
with individual family members as needed.
Those with social anxiety or generalized anxiety disorder and concurrent substance use problems are offered treatment in a
10-week group treatment. Those who participate in this group may or may not have an eating disorder in addition to the anxiety
issues.
The treatment program involves weekly group sessions and may include individual sessions depending on the treatment stream.
The initial assessment process involves 2 to 3 appointments that will be booked as soon as possible. While waiting for your
assessment, please maintain contact with your GP and explore other support options.
