Who We Are…

Spiritual and Religious Care services (S&RCS) of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) works within a Multifaith context, in which all faiths and views of spirituality are welcome and celebrated. This is consistent with the Centre's Vision of Desired Culture where differences are celebrated and is "demonstrated by inclusive practices and policies…."
The department is staffed by spiritual caregivers who are trained professionals representing various spiritual and religious traditions. We have a Muslim Imam, a Jewish Rabbi, a Native Elder and Christian chaplains working together as a team. We also have graduate students from various theological schools working with us as part of their education programme. They work with individual clients and as part of treatment teams. We also have volunteers who help us with our various activities.

What We Do…

S&RCS provide spiritual and religious care to staff and clients irrespective of their religious or spiritual perspectives. We offer direct client care and are part of multi-disciplinary treatment teams throughout CAMH. We work with individuals and groups, according to the expressed needs of clients and staff. We seek to be open to all people who ask for our services. We strive to provide services when and where needed.

Our Vision is…

to promote human wellness. The staff of S&RCS provide a forward-thinking holistic program of spiritual and religious care through research, education and client-centred care. We do so in a climate which honours human dignity and the spiritual dimension of all persons regardless of their race, colour, culture, belief system, ableness, gender or sexual orientation.

Qualified members of the S&RCS staff function as the Internal Critical Incident Stress Management Team. This team provides critical incident debriefing to CAMH staff and clients after any incident (e.g. sudden death, injury, workplace violence) that might interfere with their ability to function during or after the occurrence.
As part of our Centre-wide Diversity Initiative, we also help to facilitate diversity training groups for CAMH staff.
