New CAMH/George Brown College Assistant Cook Extended Training Program

George Brown College, in partnership with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), will be offering Assistant Cook Extended Training (ACET), an innovative two-semester program to train students for entry-level food preparation jobs. The certificate-granting program will help prepare people recovering from addiction and mental health problems for jobs in the food service industry.

Applications should be submitted by March 12, with applicant interviews beginning shortly thereafter. The program starts in April, with a four-week orientation and assessment period, and it ends in December. In addition to 15 hours per week of classroom and kitchen lab instruction work, participants will have workshops and a job placement.

Applicants must have a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent or mature student status with Grade 10 and college assessment of Mathematics and English and be employment support eligible for the Ontario Disability Support Program.

The program is offered at no cost to the participant. Classes and labs are held at George Brown's St. James Campus at 200 King Street East nd at the Hospitality Centre at 300 Adelaide Street East (just behind the King street location). Work placements will take place at various locations in Toronto, including CAMH's retail food services at 1001 Queen Street West.
