AV SUBJECT HEADING LIST

HOW TO BORROW AUDIOVISUALS

  • All borrowers must be registered members of the library. Borrowers with a General Public card may borrow one audiovisual item at a time for a period of one week.
  • Professionals may access resources by arranging with their organizations to FAX a loan request on official letterhead to (416) 595-6601.
    • Note: Most large hospitals have libraries that will arrange loans of audiovisual material for their staff – this service should be used where available.
  • Students must arrange audiovisual loans through the library, learning resource centre (LRC), audiovisual service or resource person at their school.
  • Members of the general public outside Toronto may borrow through the inter-library loan service of their public library, where available.
  • Audiovisuals may be reserved ahead of time and are subject to availability.  They may be borrowed for the length of time required to ship, show and return them to the Centre Library, generally 7 to 8 days. If you have further questions you may call (416) 535-8501, ext. 6987.

CONDITIONS OF LOAN

Borrowers in Toronto are responsible for the pick up and return of loans. Items can be sent to borrowers outside of Toronto by courier; the borrower is responsible for arranging loan returns by courier and ensuring that they are received by the Library on or before the due date.

  1. The borrower is responsible for the care of audiovisual material. Charges may be levied for replacement of items lost or damaged due to negligence.  (The average cost of a DVD or video is $300.)
  2. Do not attempt to repair or modify audiovisual materials in any way: Please report any malfunction or damage to the AV technician before return of the item.
  3. Audiovisual materials will be returned by the due date unless an extension is granted.  Please call the AV service (416) 535-8501 x6987 to request loan extensions before the due date.
  4. Return the audiovisual materials to the Centre Library in person or by Courier.
  5. A fine of $5.00 per day per item may be levied against borrowers who do not return audiovisuals by the due date.
  6. Materials must be packaged securely to prevent damage. Do not use recycled fibre-filled envelopes - padding in this kind of envelope contaminates videotapes and VCR’s.
  7. Students will use the library services of their school to arrange video loans. Other borrowers may arrange loans through the inter-library loan service of their public library.
